Third graders have been introduced to a new design problem that focuses around how to rescue a trapped tiger at the zoo! We began learning about different forces of motion including friction and gravity. Next students explored balanced and unbalanced forces and were introduced to simple machines. Students were so excited to start using the VEX kits! They’ve worked in teams to build an inclined plane, lever, and pulley with VEX pieces. Next we’ll be looking at compound machines and designing a way to combine the simple machines into a compound machine. Students are beginning to think about how these machines could help them rescue the tiger! |

AuthorThis is my tenth year teaching and my second with Ann Arbor Public Schools. I spent the first eight years of my teaching career as a K-8 technology teacher. I joined AAPS last year as a Media Specialist and I am thrilled to be a part of PLTW this year! In my spare time I enjoy going to the gym, baking and spending time with family and friends! Archives
