First grade has started their second PLTW module for the year, light and sound! We started listening to a story about three friends on a hiking trip that get lost and need to communicate using light and sound with another hiking group. We then started learning about sound and got to use cup telephones, tuning forks, rubber band cups and stethoscopes to help test how vibrations help us hear. We even compared sound waves to a slinky! Next we started learning about light and went on a picture hunt in the classroom to locate light sources with our iPads. Then we discussed how shadows are made and created some with flashlights on our desks! Students also had the chance to see how light reflects off smooth and shiny objects like a mirror. | |

AuthorThis is my tenth year teaching and my second with Ann Arbor Public Schools. I spent the first eight years of my teaching career as a K-8 technology teacher. I joined AAPS last year as a Media Specialist and I am thrilled to be a part of PLTW this year! In my spare time I enjoy going to the gym, baking and spending time with family and friends! Archives
